What Actually Happens at a Laurastar Showroom Visit (And Why 99% of Visitors Buy)

  • A Laurastar showroom visit is a no-obligation demonstration of around 30 minutes, run on a garment you bring in yourself.
  • Laurastar has showrooms in Melbourne (Blackburn), Sydney (Bankstown), Brisbane (Cannon Hill) and Perth (Malaga), with demonstrations by appointment.
  • Bring the garment you’re most nervous about ironing, such as silk, linen or wool, to see DMS steam press it without sheen marks or water spots.
  • Around 99% of people who come in for a demonstration go on to buy, mostly because they arrive close to a decision and the demonstration answers their last question.

By the time most people book a demonstration with me, they’ve already done their research. They’ve read the reviews, compared us with Miele or Rowenta, and quite often had a Laurastar sitting in their online cart for a week or two. What they haven’t been able to do is see it work on their own clothes. That’s the one question a website can’t fully answer, and it’s the reason the showroom exists.

A showroom visit is a demonstration on a garment you bring in, at your pace, with no obligation to buy. Here’s exactly what happens, and what to bring.

What happens during a Laurastar showroom visit

Before you arrive

You book a time that suits you, and we set aside around 30 minutes for the demonstration. If you mention what you’d like to see when you book, whether that’s a particular model, a type of fabric or a comparison between two systems, I’ll have it set up and ready when you walk in.

A conversation about your wardrobe first

The first few minutes aren’t about the product at all. I’ll ask what you iron, how often, and which garments you worry about. Someone pressing a week of business shirts for a family needs something different from someone whose main concern is a wardrobe of silk and cashmere. Getting this right first means I can show you the model that suits your household, not simply the most expensive one in the room.

The demonstration on your own garment

This is the heart of the visit. I’ll take the garment you’ve brought, set the system up exactly as you’d use it at home, and press it in front of you. You’ll see how the DMS steam behaves, how the board holds the fabric, and what the finished result looks like up close. Then you can pick it up, feel it and check it in the light.

Your turn

After that, the iron is yours. You’ll feel how light it is and how little pressure it needs. Trying it yourself is the best way to know whether it suits the way you work, and it’s the step I’d encourage anyone to take before spending this much on an appliance.

Comparing models, and leaving to think it over

If you’re weighing up two systems, say the Smart U against the Smart I, or a full system against a Lift steam station, we can run the same garment on both. Our guide to which Laurastar is right for you is a good primer before you come in. And if you’d like to go home and think about it, that’s completely fine. You can buy on the day or online later, once you’ve talked it through at home.

What to bring

Bring the garment you’re most nervous about ironing. That’s the whole point of the visit, and an easy cotton shirt won’t tell you much.

Good choices include a silk blouse or shirt, a linen shirt or dress that never seems to lose its creases, wool trousers or a suit jacket that’s picked up shine from a standard iron, or a fine knit you’ve been sending to the dry cleaner. If there’s a specific problem you’ve had at home, like water spots on silk or a sheen on dark wool, bring the garment it happened to. I’d much rather show you how the system handles your real problem than a demonstration fabric chosen to look good.

It also helps to bring a short list of questions. A few worth asking are covered further down.

What you’ll see when DMS steam meets a delicate fabric

Most of the people who visit are coming to see one thing: whether Dry Microfine Steam (DMS) can press their delicates without the risk a standard iron carries.

With a conventional steam iron, silk is a gamble. Too much heat or direct pressure leaves a shiny mark, and wet steam can leave water spots. On wool, the same combination causes shine on the weave. DMS steam is dry and very fine, so it penetrates the fibres without depositing surface moisture, and it doesn’t rely on you choosing the right temperature setting for each fabric. In the demonstration you’ll see a silk garment come off the board smooth, dry and without marks, and you’ll be able to check it yourself.

You’ll also see the active board in use. Its vacuum function holds the fabric still and draws the steam through it, while the blower lifts delicate fabrics on a cushion of air so they aren’t pressed flat against the board. For garments you’d rather not lay flat at all, I’ll show you vertical steaming on a hanger. Our guide to what DMS technology is and how it differs from pressurised steam explains the mechanism in more detail.

Questions worth asking while you’re there

A demonstration is the best time to get specific answers, so use it.

Ask for the warranty term on the model you’re considering and what it covers, in writing. Ask how servicing and repairs work, how long a typical repair takes and whether spare parts are available for the life of the product. Ask which model suits your volume and fabric mix, and why. And if you’ve read reviews of an older model, ask how the current range differs. Our Laurastar review breaks down independent ratings model by model if you’d like to read up before you come in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any obligation to buy after a demonstration?

No. A demonstration is there to help you decide, and many people take time to think it over at home before buying in store or online.

How long does a Laurastar demonstration take?

Allow around 30 minutes. That covers a conversation about your wardrobe, a demonstration on your own garment and time to try the system yourself. Comparing several models can take a little longer.

Can I bring my own clothes to the showroom?

Yes, and it’s encouraged. Bring the garment you find hardest to iron, particularly silk, linen, wool or anything you currently send to the dry cleaner.

Do I need to book, or can I walk in?

Booking is recommended so the models you’d like to see are set up and someone can give you their full attention.

Can I buy online after visiting a showroom?

Yes. You can buy in the showroom on the day or online at laurastar.com.au later. Your demonstration doesn’t commit you to either.

What if I can’t get to a showroom?

Our Laurastar Smart demonstration and DMS technology video show the steam in use. Before you buy, our guide on whether a Laurastar is worth the money covers the long-term cost and what to weigh up.

If you’ve had a Laurastar in your cart and one question is still holding you back, a demonstration is the simplest way to answer it. Bring your most difficult garment, and we’ll show you what happens.
